Our Story

Zachary Anthony Caudill was born in Southern Pines, North Carolina on December 14th, 2006 at 7:52AM. He was a perfect 6 pounds 7 ounces, beautiful healthy baby boy. He pulled my life together.

Now we're going to fast forward about 4 years.

We don't tell many people this, but Ian and I met through the video game Left 4 Dead 2, through a mutual friend in March of 2011. There were many phone calls, video calls and chat conversations. He started to get to know Zachary from very early on, and spoke to him nearly as often as he spoke to me.

As time went by, we realized we had a lot in common and something very special forming. He broached the subject of coming for a visit, and quickly those dreams became a reality.

On September 16th of 2011, Ian flew to North Carolina and all of our lives were changed. We surprised everyone when on September 22nd, we were wed.

From the very beginning, Zachary was calling him "my Ian". After we were married, I explained to him that Ian would be his step-dad and he could call him Ian still if he wanted to, or he could call him dad or daddy, whatever he wanted. He chose daddy, the one thing his life had really been missing. Ever since, Zachary has been very attached to Ian. He loves him so very much, and to him Ian is just his daddy.

The problem is that no one else sees it that way. Ian is just a stepparent, which by definition means he has no legal rights or obligations to Zachary. We are working on changing that, and turning this little boy in to Zachary Anthony Tigh, and legally making it so Ian is his father, with all the rights and responsibilities that being his legal father will incur.

Zachary's birth father was never involved at all, and after some reflection on his part he signed over his rights in March of 2013. We will see the social worker on July 12th at 9AM, and after that our case will go to the Judge. We are looking at being finished with this in September. Hopefully the early part.

We have been trying to get pregnant since we were wed in 2011, and have succeeded twice, but both have ended in miscarriage. We are currently taking a TTC break while we focus on Zach's adoption and I try to get my health under control.
